YOU ARE THE EMPIRE

You Are The Empire are an alternative rock band from north Norfolk created earlier this year,2013, The band consists of 4 members all of which study A Levels in Norfolk. The band is composed of Sam Jenkins (Drums), Ed Richardson (Bass guitar), Stokely Howard (Electric guitar and backing vocals) and Dan Holmes (Vocals and rhythm guitar).
The band create their own music, currently they have four recorded songs that are up on youtube and are in the process of writing new material.
In keeping with their style of music they are styled with an alternative look such as buttoned up shirts and slim jeans. Below is their synopsis of the song Love Diamonds.
"Love Diamonds, a stereotypical love song, meaning those little things that is unique in every relationship that makes it special and individual from others. Every relationship has them."

Don’t you say, I love you again
We’re like a box love diamonds
You play the game, on my heart

I feel the pain, I’m not insane
You spinning wires round my heart
You disappear, in front of me
And never come back for me again

You took my love last night
Was it wrong or right
All I want is for your love diamonds X 2

I miss your laugh and your eyes
When they looked deep down into mine
It will rain, when we kiss
And I’ll make my only wish
I want to play, on the strings
Of your mind and of your heart
Its hurts inside, I’m petrified
Stars are floating around my eyes

You took my love last night
Was it wrong or right
All I want is for your love diamonds X 2

You took my love last night
Was it wrong or right
All I want is for your love diamonds X 2
These lyrics are talking about a love song, about someone who is confused by what they want in the relationship and is toying with the idea of whether it should carry on.

  1. Doing some annotations of the lyrics, ike a mind map, will help you explore the imagery you associate with the song. It will help you think about making a mood board and ideas for locations.
